Only thing you might want to consider beyond dpi is the profile of the particular "canvas" paper v the "satin" paper for your printer, and maybe be prepared to bump up the saturation a little. That, however, depends on the look that you wish to achieve.

What I really want is Giclee and, like you said, maybe I must bump the saturation up a little. This is a sea scene and the lady asking me therefore, (owner of the gallery doing the framing of the one on satin) said it must have kind of a painting effect.

Is she referring to the process that puts a paint-like texture over the prints? I have seen that in some frame shops. They make re-prints of fine art and paint over with a clear but built up surface to simulate thick paints. I think it’s kind of cheap and tacky, I prefer my photos as photos not fake paintings.

I am 101% in agreement with you – full stop.

For some or another reason, these same simulated thick painted cheap & tacky fake paintings is dominating the market. There is not a market for realistic quality photos comparing to the way these paintings sell. Not necessarily digital paintings of course, but still, a seagull must not look real if it is to be sold.

Two week ago, I had a very good sea scene printed in A1 size. The lady running the gallery where I usually have my printings framed, ask for a repeat on canvas. Not framed though, because the tourists roll it up tot take it with.

<important>
Let me explain myself. Photography is simply a hobby for me. But I spend quite a lot there on, so, if it can pay for it self, good. </important>

I don’t intend selling photos to the newspapers or magazines. I do not even think off be at unknown peoples marriages
for taking photos. I do not need it.

I sold photos from a shop in Umhlanga Rocks, but it
barely paid for the cost. And I withdrew.

I did not ask here for. She runs a gallery in one of the best and biggest shopping centers in Durban, *and*
they do 90% of Durban’s framing work.

I see what she sell’s. I see what the galleries in Gateway at Umhlanga sell’s. I see what the galleries in La Lucia sell. And I see what the galleries in uShaka Island sell.
There is galleries for Africa here; have you got a clue
how large Durban are? With the South Coast and North Coast South & North of us?

They sell… (here comes it)… reprints of art which is painted with a clear but built up surface to simulate thick paints. And it is kind of cheap and tacky. And I prefer my photos and not fake paintings; up to when the client want a fake painting. Then my dear KatWoman, the client gets a
fake painting. The prices are not cheap & tacky.

Here is well-off people. Come see what
they drive. Come see what they sail. Come see their houses. Come see the prices (which was) on the paintings against their walls.

You can include texture effect into pictures
Filter > Texture > Textureiser > and then one of the 4 presets! Is that what you mean – I use this a lot, and I was thinking of trying it commercially!!

I have played with it, Harry. And with Janee’s.
I have downloaded gig’s of tutorials, of which a
big portion is related to digital paintings – oil, water, sketches etc. Leaded by the tutorials, I have
also experimented in finding new ideas.

‘try’ is for trying own ideas:-)
http://home.intekom.com/davesplace/try3.jpg
with ‘angler’ I found it is quite difficult to draw
realistic clouds. Here is the result so far:-)
http://home.intekom.com/davesplace/angler.jpg
I did not give up on this- still working on it:-)

Anyway, thanks for dealing the picture of the horse with us. Here is a A1 printed and framed last week, and I changed the colours a wee bit (very careful not to exagerate) via the saturation tool, added the seagull and had it printed on canvas this morning.

I think you and I should share ideas on digital painting because you (was?) thinking of trying it commercially
as well.

Get rid of the popcorn puffy ones or blur them and spread them horizontally. For sure get rid of the big white one on the horizon. It’s not so much that they’re bad, though they aren’t good, as that they don’t form like that in real life. You _could_ find a cumulus cloud on the horizon, but it wouldn’t look like that. You’ve got haze and vague horizontal ones that look right. The horizontal smeary ones look right for that kind of day. The others are too white all over and just not right for that sort of weather.

Thanx for your ideas, Cyli, I’ll do what you suggest.
Re. what you said about a cumulus cloud on the horizon,
you can even find cumulus nimbus on the horizon, reason there for is that any cloud will be for somebody somewhere, on the horizon. And cumulus nimbus, dangerous as it is, can sometimes be at a very low altitude.
Thanks for your positive thoughts.
