Hard Question to get answered.
First I’m using a Nikon D70 camera. At first had to open photos using Nikon Capture 4.1 then transfer to Photoshop CS. They would open good. No color corrections were needed. Straight to print.
Second I added the CS RAW plugin to CS and now can open the RAW files straight into CS. Here lies the problem. In comparison the same photo opened in Nikon Capture and opened straight into CS are not the same. The color profile from Nikon Capture is [Nikon sRGB 4.0.0.3001]. When photos are opened in Nikon Capture then transfered to Adobe I can accept the color profile and they can then be printed directly to print with no color modifications needed. Not so when opened into CS only.
This can be very time consuming ie weddings.
Please do not respond with change your color profile in CS to color match RGB because that does not work either.
This is the question—- how can I add the color profile
[Nikon sRGB 4.0.0.3001] to the dropdown menu in Adobe CS/edit/color settings/custom/working spaces/RGB.
Thank you Steve.

Assigning color profiles does not help before you open files. Only after the file is open. There lies the problem. Again do you have some idea how to place color profile-csi file (where is it)[Nikon sRGB 4.0.0.3001] into the drop down of: Adobe Photoshop CS/Edit/color settings/custom/working spaces/RGB. Thanks.
I checked all files in Nikon Capture 4.1 its not there. Probably from the camera profiles.Which you can not get to?

Also assigned profiles only has Nikon sRGB 4.0.0.3000.

I think that there may be an Applescript that will embed a profile into an image, but I’m really not sure. There used to be one called "Embed Specific Profile" and another one called "DropEmbed" in OS9. It was in the Apple Extras/ColorSync folder

Other wise you will need to open the file, though I don’t see what the big deal is if you have to assign the profile once the file is open…

The big deal is time spent. We all know Photoshop beats every other software program hands down. To have to open a file in Capture then transfer to Adobe wastes a lot of time just to get that color profile. Remember when opening files directly into Photoshop the colors are different. No matter what color setting you set or assign. Adobe does not have color profile Nikon 4.0.0.3001.
If you can take a photo in RAW uncompressed in your D70 camera. Open file in Nikon Capture 4.1 and transfer to Photoshop clicking OK to save color profile Nikon sRGB 4.0.0.3001. Then save file in different name, leave open. Now open same file in photoshop only in any color profile including color match RGB and you will see the difference- side by side. Big difference. Went from no color corrections needed to all kinds of color corrections needed.
There lies the problem more time is spent either way. I have searched the help menus for days now and can come up with no help for this.
All I need is the proper color profile file and be able to copy it to Adobe so it is in the drop down menu in color settings. Thanks.

gonyos,
On my Pshop 7, I can set the RGB working space to Nikon sRGB 4.0.0.3001 . Does that not work on your CS system ? The Nikon profile is in my system color profile folder using Win2k.

Profile locations:-

Windows 98, 98 Second Edition and Me – folder named windows/system/color Windows 2000 and XP – sub-folder named system32/spool/drivers/color Mac OS9.x – ColorSync profiles are located in the System Folder/ColorSync Profiles folder Mac OSX – ColorSync profiles are located in the Library/ColorSync/Profiles folder

😕

If you want to speed up the assigning of profiles, create an action for it and assign an F-Key to it. One keystroke and you can select the profile you want.

That’s what I do and it works great, and I get to see the result of assigning profiles right away (I get a lot of files from customers and get to play "guess the profile" more often than I care to)

And look for those scripts.

Brent I checked and the only color profile I have is [Nikon WinMonitor 4.0.0.3000] its called: NKMonitor_Win. I could try this one. But it is not the same. I’m using Win XP Pro.

I did find the color profiles in program/common/file/nikon/profiles. But now there are several ones Some working ones and some for inside processes. Getting closer.

Ok next problem now that I found the color profile. Is when you place it in Adobes color profiles under Programs/Common files/Adobe/Color/Profiles including recommended you still don’t get the option to use in photoshops drop down menu in color settings. Those files are ICC Profile files. You need the .csf file in /color/settings.
Which leads me to the next question where can I get the Nikon 4.0.0.3001 color profile in .csf file format. Somehow I think I’m starting to step on programers toes here and they don’t like that. Steve.

Rename your .ICC profile to .ICM . That should make it visible in the dropdown box.

Ok I tried that. Three things happened. I went into color profiles checked Advanced set to custom then went into RGB and the drop down menu had everything in the System 32 file. Except the color profile I placed in there. Went looking for it and as soon as I changed files switched right back to .CSF files only. Can’t get back to .ICC files.
Second thing that happened is I just renamed the RGB to the file name I gave it NikonsRGB4003001 that seemed to work. But not really. Sometimes I think the programers go way to deap when they design programs. All this did for me is I’m still at the same problem but now when I open files in Nikon Capture and transfer to Adobe I don’t have to click the accept color profile. Before there was a slight difference in the red tone now there isn’t (step in the right direction). When same file is open (RAW files only) in photoshop it only gives me the four drop down color profiles of Adobe RGB (1938); ColorMAtch RGB; Pro Photo RGB and sRGB IECG1966-1 and the colors are not the same. I’m thinking there is probably no where that can be changed because you will need the .CSF file. But even then where is that file to be changed.

Third thing it does is changes the file name to untitled which means the files would have to be renamed. Again programers going way to deap. This could be worse than not having to click OK to accept color profiles. All goes down to work flow.
