have a fresh installation of winXP pro. i installed Photoshop 7.0 and the program worked no problem. i then at a later date installed some new fonts to my system (about 700) i now have just over 1000 fonts. Photoshop now doesn’t load and i get the error message "Unable to continue because of a hardware or system error. Sorry, but this error is unrecoverable." Has anyone else seen this before? i’m sure it’s the fonts that have caused the problem because when i effectively ‘rolled-back’ the windows fonts folder to it’s original default fonts photoshop worked correctly. I also tried uninstalling photoshop totally, restarting, then installing again but i still got the error message. i suspect it’s probably only 1 font in the folder which is causing the problem. Whilst photoshop is loading it stops at the part where the splash screen says "Reading fonts…", then throws up the error message! Any ideas, would be very greatful…

reset your prefrences per the faq.

i suspect it’s probably only 1 font in the folder which is causing the problem.

probably right. if you NEED all those fonts you should load 1/2 the fonts, if the problem exists, it’s in the half you loaded. repeat, 1/2 the # of fonts each time untl you find the bad font.

also a good font mgmt app would be useful if you want to keep all those fonts. they’re bogging down your system!
