I have a 24 meg 8.5×11 @300 psd file. I would like a print approximately 16×20 from Kinko’s. It will be used as a menu board in a window for about 1 month. It is mostly text but has a picture of an ice cream cone. Three questions: How do I figure what size to tell Kinko’s to make it so it is close to 16×20. Does it matter if I have them put it on say a 20×24 sheet? I was going to put the 24 meg 8.5×11 @300 pds file on a cd and give it to them. Will this be the best way to go or should I use tiff? Thanks for any help.

Bob,

Why don’t you resize it to the size that you want then tell Kinkos to print it without resizing. If you are burning to CD, then your size won’t get too large at 300 ppi.

Don’t see why using a PSD or tiff file would make a difference, although my limited experience with Kinkos is that they often don’t have the newest version of programs and if you save in PSD CS, they may only have 7.0 or even 6.0. In that case, Tiff would be preferable. (honestly, I don’t know what how backward compatible PSD files are with older versions because I haven’t tried.)

Thanks, Kirk. Guess I should have mentioned I am on 7.0. I’ll give it a go with psd. I can always redo as a tif if they need it. Again thanks.

I would use PSD then your text will say as vector’s, or save as a Photoshop PDF – maybe convert the text to shape layers to avoid font problems at their end. Then the upsizing wont degrade the text.
