Printing Problem: No Black?

Hiya,

I have all full ink cartridges, brand new from Epson … but Photoshop isn’t printing black.

The only other program I have on the computer right now is Illustrator, and that’s not printing black either.

I’ve performed all the tests on the printer, it’s communicating fine, the test sheet comes out exact, and I can pring black text, but the black isn’t printing with an image or photo.

Any ideas?

Check to see if you’ve taken the protective tape off the cartridge.

Check to see if you’ve taken the protective tape off the cartridge.

With this ink cartridge, there is no tape … all the others are working, just not black.

Probably a duff cartridge – take it back.

I think if something should be wrong with your black cartridge, or if it should ever be empty, the printer mixes the colors in the color cartridge to approximate black. So if you see black in the test print that might be why. Since black ink is cheap, it might be worth it to try a new cartridge, just to see.

Also, when that happens you may try rubbing a wet paper towel across the printer heads because sometimes the ink will dry a bit if you don’t use it often enough. That’s what happens on my
crappy hp printer/copy/fax/scan machine.
