I just recently started a new job where I was given the former employees computer. No matter what font I use in Phototshop 5.5 my text is extremly pixalated when I print it out. I’ve tried adjusting settings and playing with the Anti-alias but nothing seems to work. The text looks clear on screen at about 67% but if I go above or below that percentage the text is very blurry. I work in ad design and I can’t send anything to print with the text looking this way. If you have any suggestions or no where i can look please help. Thanks

I don’t know what ppi is.

ppi = Pixels per inch

Go look at the Image Size, it will tell you the resolution of the image.

I thought that’s what you meant, the image size is 8 inches by 10.875 which is 576 X 783 pixles. but the problem accurs regardles off my image size, it’s all about the text.

I’m sorry I meant Canvas size not image.

576 pixels / 8 inches = 72 ppi

And that’s you rproblem. You really should have 240 to 300 ppi for print.

can I change the ppi without changing my Canvas size? if so how?

With Image Size

If you check the resampling option, you will be able to change the resolution wihtout changing the linear dimension.

BUT: Increasing the resolutiojn of an image will not improve it. You will be better off rescanning the image. And you may need to redo the text.

If you’re printing to a postscript printer it won’t matter for the text. As a workaround you can save to PDF and open and print from Acrobat.

5.5 didn’t have vectored text, did it?

Yes, it did. Started with 5.0.

5/5.5 had editable text layers.
But are you sure sure was vector?
Thought that started with 6 when shape vectors were added?

Editable text is vector. But no, there were no vector layers, IIRC.

Gotcha.

No biggie, just curious…
I USED 5 and 5.5, just couldn’t remember, and looking at the feature list on the boxes didn’t make it any clearer.

Thanks, Bob.

You kept the boxes? Now that’s impressive.

Yeah, I know…digital retentive or something.
Probably a deep seated neurosis there somewhere!
