I am running photoshop 6 and want to add some new fonts. From reading through messages by others it seems that this is possible, but how. And where can I get new fonts? Can anyone help me? The font I am looking for is a caligraphy type of font that uses double lines on the lettering(one thick line and one thin line) This font looks like it’s very old, like how they used to write fancy way back before our time. Any imput would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

First off, you can’t add fonts to PS. You can add them to Windows and all programs, including PS, can then use them.

There are lots of places to get fonts from. Just try Googling "fonts"! Adobe sell them, for example … Here’s somewhere else to start: <http://www.myfonts.com/>

You have to restart photoshop every time you install new fonts, in order for them to show up. they aren’t automatically updated like other programs, i.e., CorelDraw. Also, if you go to www.1001freefonts.com there is a slew of fonts, all totally free. I’m sure you’ll find what you need there. There are also links to other fonts, but you have to buy them.

Some more advice, particularly if you use free fonts, where quality may be an issue:

1) Only install a few at a time. A bad font may stall PS and this will give you a chance to figure it out if that does happen.

2) Don’t install 1000s or even 100s of fonts. Nobody needs that many. Any document should not use more than 2 font families or it ends up as a mess [the "ransome note school of typography"!]. Every font uses up system resources – a couple of thousand can bring your system to its knees.

dont think you’ll be needing MY help on this but i havent seen someone post this bit of information. when you dl a free font onto your computer, or when you install whatever you’ve bought, you know that you have to put the font files that are now installed on your computer in Control Panel>Fonts ? when you do that, the fonts will not only be accessed by PS, but also by Word and Powerpoint and other programs.

that was probably useless information but i thought i’d post the message~

And actually, it’s generally recommended that you use FILE/INSTALL NEW FONTS, rather than just drag them in there.

Makes an additional notation in the registry or somesuch, more reliable, I’ve read somewhere.

Well I got to the point of being able to download a free font and use it in photoshop. And I realized that the font I want is called Old English, but the cheapest I’ve seen it for is $22. Anyone know of an Old English font that is free? Also does anybody know the difference between true type and postscript fonts? the postscripts are cheaper, but I’m not sure why. Hey everyone thanks for the replies!
