I hope you guys can help me. My problem is that after I have made a scan the bulb stays on.

SYSTEM INFO

I have an old Epson 1250 scanner. My PC runs XP Pro/SP2. The scanner is attached via USB. When the scanner and PC are switched on the scanner bulb is off. But after I have made a scan the bulb remains on.

If I unplug the USB cable and re-insert it, the bulb goes off. Seems it might be something to do with the driver (????)

OPERATION

I make the scan using a graphics application (e.g. Photoshop) to "aquire" the image by calling the Epson Twain driver (ver 5.71A). I exit the application and the Twain window vanishes too. I can not see anything in XP’s Task Manager suggesting any of this software is still loaded and calling the scanner. Is this due to an XP "service" not closing down?

Can anyone advise how to avoid the bulb staying on.

Is it not part of the quick start operation for the second and further scans. When the ‘bulb’ is light for the first time, then autolevel sensing etc has to be carried out- If the bulb remains lit then the second scan goes ahead immediately. Is there no off on switch for the power supply available for when its not being used for periods of time if that’s what you want.

My HP scanner does the same thing. In fact, all of the HP peripherals I’ve used have a propensity to leave programs running whether the device is in use or not. You could try shutting down the drivers (by using CNTRL-Alt-Delete or whatever options your OS has) to see if that works. Depending on how often you use the scanner you could also see about preventing anything from automaticaly loading everytime you turn the computer on. That’s another thing HP seems to be overly fond of.

The above can be construed as personal opinion in the absence of a reasonable belief that it was intended as a statement of fact.

Hi…

Wonder if by stays on you mean "forever"; or just a few minutes waiting to see if you have another job for it coming up.

My Epson will stay on, but if not used soon will then shut itself off. Perhaps 5 minutes or so.

Take care.

There’s no bulb saver timer function in the software tools?

Try going to the "scanners and cameras" page on the Windows Control Panel. Double click on the entry for your scanner. Look for a tab called "lamp" and select Energy save.

With my scanner at least, selecting this option will cause the lamp to turn off after a few minutes. If you don’t see this option anywhere on the properties pages, you might try getting the latest software for your scanner from HP.

The bulb goes off after 15 minutes of non-operation (sleep mode), not after each scan.
