Creating shape outlines

For some reason, I can only create solid shapes with no outline.

How can I create a shape that only contains the shape outline and leaves the inside of the shape blank?

One way is to double click on the shape layer, in blending options set fill opacity to 0% then adjust the stroke thickness and color in the stroke menu.

Or Select Paths rather than Shape layer on the options bar and stroke the path
