I have some photos of pillow and sham on bed. This is on an ornate headboard. The wall was painted a neural gray. My problem is that I got some color reflections from the wall on to the edges of the headboard. I guess i should of had it pulled furter out from the wall. Depending on the pillowcase design and bed spread we alter the wall color. How might I be able to change the reflected color to match new wall color. I have selected the wall and tried various amounts of feather, but there are areas that have different widths of reflection. Also can you countrol if the feather is inside or outside of your selected area. I am photoshop CS.

Thanks for any help
David

Perhaps quickmasks can help you. Enter the quickmask mode by pressing Q. Now you can use all the tools you have (selection, fill, pencil, eraser, ….) to make/modify your selection. Pressing Q again brings you back to the normal mode, updating the selection.

For the parts that need to have feathering, you use a brush that is soft in the edges. For the other parts, you can use a brush with hard edges.

You may have success simply painting out the offending reflection to make it match the color of the rest of the headboard. Use the brush in color mode, and sample an appropriate area of the headboard.

If you want to keep the reflection, use a layer mask, not a selection, and use a color adjustment layer to set the color. You may save yourself a lot of work by converting to Lab mode and using either the a or b channel, bumping the contrast in levels, and using that as the start of your layer mask, with some touch-ups with the brush. The r, g, or b channels may also serve as a good start for a mask.
