Granted, it’s totally backwards from what most users want to do: removing haze and making a scene look clear. I had a picture I’d taken recently in Bologna, Italy, in which a pair of clear, close, columnar trees framed a more distant scene of an old villa partially obscured in a fairly dense haze. With just some judicious manipulation of the brightness and contrast — and a little curves/levels tweaking — I managed to pull out of the haze a remarkably clear image of the villa. But there are pictures where I’d like to do the opposite: making (a portion of) an image appear mist/fog shrouded, sort of like Brigadoon starting to appear out of the Irish mist [am I really dating myself with that reference?].

I’m sure I could do enough experimentation to find the right way(s), but I’d prefer to find an already-done reference showing various techniques and their results. Any links? Hints?

TIA
Norm
