I just upgraded from Photoshop 7 to Photoshop CS. I expected the install program to find my previous install of Photoshop 7 and remove it before installing the upgrade (CS). However, it didn’t. And now I have two version of Photoshop running. Can I safely uninstall Photoshop 7 from the Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs without affecting Photoshop CS? And is it also safe to uninstall ImageReady?

yes you can, but 2 things to remember…

1) you’re allowed multiple versions during a "transition" period. meaning you can leave 7 on while you learn cs, and if you have any problems, you still have your trusty 7 to fall back on in a pinch.

2) if you do wish to uninstall 7, make sure you say "NO" if the uninstall (run from the control panel’s "add/remove programs" applet) asks if you "wish to remove shared files".

Thanks Dave. Your response is very helpful. I’m actually ready to uninstall version 7 now because I just reinstalled all of my software due to a motherboard/hard drive change. I’ve been using CS for a couple of months now. Because CS is an upgrade version I had to install Photoshop 7 (full version) first. Thanks again.

Bob,

It is a misunderstanding that you have to install the older version prior to installing the upgrade.
You just have to have the CD with the old version at hand.

For verification, the installer of the upgrade will, during install, ask the user to insert the media of the previous version.

Also, like Dave already stressed: leave shared files where they are.

With the HDD and MB change you might be prompted for a new activation.
