Found this on another newsgroup for scanning slides, very logical, very cheap and looks like it would work with out to much work or outlay in cash. this is the web site

That’s actually pretty cool for archiving large numbers of transparancies. When I need a quality scan I borrow my friends dedicated slide scanner, I think it’s an HP, but using it is beyond tedious. I would only use it when I have few slides to scan. I have the Umax 3450 and it really is pretty useless as a slide scanner. I expected better from Umax.

Bob, thanks for the below web page. It definately
was interesting and I will definately see, if it works
just as well for a 16mm film strip.

there is a commercial and inexpensive ready made version of the same idea
I saw it on ebay

I also used a similar jerry-rig to copy some larger transparencies that won’t fit in my 35mm scanner
I used a bellows extension from an old camera, put a mask with a translucent material under it and over a light box shot it on macro setting with my digital camera, quick cheap fast copy negs
