NEF (RAW) Contrast Adjustment vs CS Levels Command

What are people doing when opening Nikon NEF files into CS. I have tried the Contrast adjustment in the RAW conversion but it does not have the range of the CS tool. I have tried both in conjunction and just the CS and can see little difference.

What are other people doing?
