Lizard sold out.
Took the money and ran, so to speak.
So they should have too. The two different versions they sold (a few hundred bucks apart) were true jokeware. The last rendition is the only one which actually worked in a useful way.

Sadly this was an action package for Photoshop only. All those people out there who don’t have PS, have to buy it if the want to use the software. You’d have thought after 5 years they might have got a clue, wouldn’t you?

The new owners didn’t care much either. They had earlier drooped their own Interpolation package (again PS only). They only owned it for a few brief weeks before selling it again! So far …in the month or so they’ve owned it, I have had 4 offers to sell it to me all over again!

Yes. You’re talking about LizardTech’s snake oil "Genuine Fractals," a program whose breathless, over-the-top marketing hype claims it can do something impossible–namely, enlarge an image and produce a high-quality result.

The way in which some people cling to the past leaves me almost beyond bladder control with amusement. Despite being directed to sites where the proof is on show, Tacit still maintains that something I do for a living every day of the working week can’t be done. It can and to prove it once and for all …here is an offer to you tacit;

Send me an original digital camera file shot at full resolution and uncompressed (a camera RAW file) from a 4 megapixel or better camera which is not over 5 meg in size,is well exposed, sharply focused and taken with a decent lens and I’ll send you back (at my cost) a print from that file measuring 600mm wide x whatever the proportions of the image allow and if you (an independent 3rd party will also get a duplicate print – just to keep you honest) don’t then agree that it is possible to enlarge a digital image to such proportions and deliver a high quality result… You can have my brand new 5D Canon camera.

If however you still maintain it can’t be done but the (Qualified) 3rd party thinks otherwise, you don’t get the camera.

If you don’t have a suitable image, I’ll use one of mine and provide you the camera RAW file to verify it’s authenticity. You can find how to send me the file or make contact here:

This is the result of the last time I challenged a critic. Gordon Moate is a highly respected USA Photographer well known for his "fine Art" exhibitions. http://www.allgstudio.com/technology.html

Time to put up or shut up Tacit…

I have Genuine Fractals Print Pro installed as a plug in to CS2. It gives me the option to save as file type .stn. When I then reopen that file the plug in open and gives me the option to scale up the image.

It takes a long time and does a lot of work and it seems that the image looks better than just using a photoshop resize.

I know that as a mathematical fact there is no new information created, but the idea is that it uses an algorithm that looks real and without the usual artifacts.

I suppose that someday we will see this incorporated into Photoshop though there may be all sorts of arguments about who owns it.

I find the Photoshop CS2 Resize Wizard (Help > Resize) does a better job than the Genuine Fractals gadget.
