We co-partner as the design division for a company that uses Indigo machines (2000, 3000, 3500 & 5000). I can only speak to the quality of the Indigo, which I find to be superb–surpassing offset in many instances. I believe it can print up to 1200 dpi or better. The machine is from Isreal, as are most of the mechanics who come in from time to time. I also know that the blanket has to be changed after a certain amount of press runs, and I think it needs to be climate controlled, and you do need someone who knows how to run it, of course
Something else – you can create images in RGB and the Indigo can mimic the wider spectrum…meaning you don’t need to convert your graphics to CMYK. I suggest you ask your question in comp.publish.prepress
Those guys can give you the real skinny.

The cost per print is the killer as is the real cost of ownership. A long way from being a cost effective alternative to current "computer to print" technology of offset systems but it does make very nice output.

Anonymously I post, knowing Microsoft and Google
are recording ever keystroke, every source IP and
every poster’s name for all eternity.

From the samples I’ve seen (maybe from the first get ver, dunno) but it looked "Color Copier" in a way. And when catching the glare off the print the blacks did that disappearing act. Not as bad as come technologies. But it didn’t look offset to me. But maybe they are better now. Dunno…

And what does it cost to resupply that puppy?
Being a smaller shop I have a tendency to look at
the cost of resupply, and not only the cost of production per piece….. If it takes a couple grand to resupply it and business is slow at the time… ouchie. 🙂 jus a thought to ponder….
