Using PS7, I would like to do some basic photo cut-outs. I realise there are loads of cheap software that does stuff like this, but I was wondering how to do this efficiently with PS.

Example; I have a photo image 6x4in @ 200 pixels of a group of people. I want to crop a circle 6cm dia to fit in a photo frame. Is there a way of using the circular selection tool and specifically give the dimensions in a box somewhere, so I can position it where I want to and then invert the selection, paint out the unwanted stuff, print and snip it out with scissors?

You can use the eliptical marque tool to select the circle, then you can position it where you want, then "invert" the selection and then delete everything except what’s inside the circle, but it will still print on a big square piece of paper. Why don’t you just use the scissors to cut the 6 cm area that you want out of the photo and be done with it. Then you don’t even have to know how to use Photoshop.
