"It all depends", is my definitive answer.

There are certainly a lot of real experts, reading and replying on this group, but sometimes they have different opinions, and it is difficult for the rest of us to know who is correct.

Regrettably, there are also some who know so little about Ps, that they are unaware they are talking rubbish.

If you apply a certain amount of common sense you will soon distinguish the real experts from the ignoratii.

Do have fun, and do ask questions. You might get some "sharp" answers but don’t be put off.

Photoshop is indeed a wonderful program – the problem is though, it’s a bit like a collection of builders tools – and when someone comes along and says "what can be built", it becomes a difficult question to answer be cause the answer depends on what you want to end up with, and how good you are at using the tools.

My suggestion would be to invest in a PhotoShop book or two through somewhere like Amazon – something that’s focussed on the sorts of images you want to work with – and then post questions here when you get stuck along the way.

Welcome. Yes, this is one of the places for PS quesitons/answers. Another is comp.graphics.apps.photoshop. I’d suggest X-posting questions to both, as not everyone reads both, but your questions will appear in both, and better, the answers will show in both – saves some of us having to upload the same reply to two NG’s. One suggestion would be to think about the Subject Line Header, so someone, years from now, can do a Google.Groups search and find your question plus the threads.

Besides myjanee.com, you might also want to register with the Adobe Forum, as there is a lot of great material for download, and tons of Q/A, plus tutorials.

Welcome to the group. You can learn a vast amount from this group but be warned that you may also get some offence from one or two slightly less charitable characters. I would thoroughly recommend a website www.myjanee.com which is full of excellent tutorials all produced for free by a charming American lady.

Photoshop is a wonderful program and is worth getting to grips with but however much you learn I doubt if you will ever know all of its capabilities.
