I am using a U8668D mother board, 256KB of RAM, Windows XP with service pack 1, P4 processor, and Photoshop CS hangs up my system. Do I need a separate Video Card? Please answer to
sorry jamie, in forum answers only. lets more people see the answers that way. what do you mean by hangs up the system? does crtl-alt-del work to end task? or do you need to reboot/power down?
if end task doesn’t work, you likely have some bad hardware somewhere. see:
Mathias Vejerslev "Computer locks up, shuts down, or reboots while running Photoshop" 6/5/03 4:49pm </cgi-bin/webx?13/1>
Just because the video card is built-in to the motherboard doesn’t mean that Photoshop will not run. However, even if it does, make sure nothing else is running at the same time! Most ‘on-board’ video cards are limited to 32mb’s of memory, which takes away from the available system memory. So, if you’ve set the video to use 32mbs, then the amount of system memory available is 256-32mbs, and that doesn’t take into consideration of the amount of memory the system needs.
Photoshop needs at least 192mb of memory to function, and Adobe recommends at least 256mb to function well. So, you’re just skating the edge of the envelope.
Try reducing the amount of memory the video card uses, all Photoshop requires is that the video card be a 16-bit display, capable of displaying 16-bit color and at least a 1024×768 screen resolution.
When I install Photoshop CS trial version, an error message stated that Setup can only run with Window 2000 Pack 3 or higher machines. I’m using WinME, thus I couldn’t run the setup. Is there anyway that I can open this Photoshop CS?
You will have to get more Ram. nothing will boost performance like ram.
And hanging the system is usually a sign of a hardware fault (see the FAQ).
