Pencil Stopped Working PS7.0.1

My pencil tool has ceased to colour. The brush tool works, I’ve deleted preferences, taken the pen out of my tablet, rebooted, restarted PS, and nothing has worked. I’m running on XP, 1gb ram, 120gb hdd. Any help would be appreciated.

Check the Mode and Opacity settings on the Options bar

I’ve tried everything, gone through every setting, tried different combinations, different brush sizes. Looks like it might be time for a re-install.
