I have Photoshop 7.0.
I can make a selection. How do I copy that selection so I can put it into another image ?

If you are using a windows version – just go "Edit" and then "copy" in the windows window.
Then go edit – Paste for where you want to put it!

When I tired ti before, I got a message that nothing was selected. It seems to work now.

Chances are that you had a Layer active, that had no pixels in the area of your selection. Make sure that the Layer, from which you wish to Copy is active – click on it in the Layers Palette, otherwise you will get that message.

If you got a message that nothing was selected, it means you were on the wrong layer. Open your Layers palette and look at it whenever you see that message.

Ok, thanks that makes sense. I think I made a new layer without even realizing it. I knew it wasn’t supposed to act like that, but I couldn’t figure out why it did.

Going back several versions in PS, one had to "create" a new Layer. Since about v5, when Pasting, etc. the new Layer is automatically created, same for Type.
