Windows xp
Optical 3.7.8

Gamma 2.2 set
Whitepoint Native

I’m trying to calibrate my crt monitor and have run PreCal and also Optical in the Standard mode.
Now in Precision mode you need to enter the Luminace Black and the White numbers.
The numbers already pre-entered, I presume from the Standard mode calibration, are Black = 0.77 and White = 90.4
Shall I leave these numbers as the targets to calibrate to, or should the Black be lower ? How do I Know what to use as the target numbers ? thank you,
Frank

Hi.

You are obviously not using Adobe Gamma. It has visual ways of doing this, not 100 percent accurate, but care and experience will get you very close.

For Photo purposes your Colour Temp should be set to 6500K, but there is a school which argues for 5500K. Certainly not the "Native" 9300K

The White Point is usually selected by turning the "Contrast Control" on the Monitor to its highest setting, though a lot of people advocate only "nearly" there.

The Black Point can be set a number of different ways, the most accurate is to reduce the screen size until there is a black band, where the electron gun is not hitting, (Maximum Black), and then set the desktop colour to Black. Cover up or get rid somehow of any bright areas still visible.

Then adjust "Brightness Control" downwards until the Black desktop just matches the Maximum Black.

If you are using a Hardware device, the above will be of no use whatsoever, but it would be helpfull to know which one has the incomplete instructions. I am about to purchase one.
