have a Photoshop question please.

I sent my client a RGB file, a cartoon….but this is what he says. ————————————————-
HI MIKE, when you do the speech in the bubbles can you make it single colour
rather than 4 colour registration

When we convert your files to CMYK we end up with a 4 colour black, although
this isn’t a major problem from time to time the registration on the printing presses can wander a bit which could make the text difficult to
read.
————————————————–

I don’t want to retype the text, how can I change the original RGB file?
There are too many cartoons to retype all the text…too much work.

Thanks, see the cartoons here.

You don’t have to retype anything. Just convert to CMYK and change the color of the type to 100% Black. I assume it’s live type on its own layer, but if not, select only the type and make the change. Note that you can’t do this in RGB.

I doubt this will look that good. I usually add in about 50-70% Cyan or Magenta so it won’t look flat and washed out.

I’d do the same for the black lines as well. May as well do this to all the black in the cartoon. Best to set up the file with the black on its own layer, set to Multiply and the color on a layer beneath.

Ok I changed ti CMYK then using magic wand I selected the black line, and went select similar for all the black.
Now please tell me step by step how do I make this black only, no other clours? Thanks.

The client is cooperative, but confused. Your RGB file does not control the CMYK conversion. That is controlled by the CMYK settings that is in place when converting your cartoons from RGB to CMYK.

The most helpful thing that you can do for this client is to perform the separation for them in Photoshop,
and send them a CMYK file instead of an RGB file. To do this, set up Photoshop’s Custom CMYK with Maximum GCR (which produces pure black type and line art), and an ink limit and dot gain as specified by the printer. If no data is available, use a conservative dot gain of 17 percent and a total ink limit of 280.

Color Picker. C=0,M=0,Y=0,K=100. Fill selection with 100 K.
