I would like to use Camera Raw with Photoshop v. 7, but have not seen any downloadable software that is labelled specifically for this version. It seems strange since there are ones for Photoshop Elements v. 3 and 4, and for CS and CS2. Does anyone know if there is a version that works with v. 7? I will be switching to CS2 in the future, but don’t want to switch right now just to use Camera Raw.

I believe there was a RAW download for version 7, but Adobe stopped supporting it (and took it off their site) when CS was released.

Off memory I think it was something like v2.3 was the last one supported prior to CS2 – and even if you manage to get hold of that then it’s going to be a tossup as to whether or not your (new???) camera will be supported.

Just for reference:

ACR 1.x was sold for Photoshop 7, but (as said elsewhere) is no longer available. It only supported a limited range of cameras.

ACR 2.x is available free for Photoshop 8 (CS), and ACR 2.4 is the latest and last. It is still available. It has special significance, because it supports DNG, therefore it supports (via the "convert to DNG" route) the same set of cameras as the later versions, and the set increases every few months.

ACR 3.x is available free for Photoshop 9 (CS2), and Elements 3 and 4. The latest is ACR 3.3. It is still available.

Each one works to a different (and extended) plugin interface, which is presumably why they are restricted to these combinations.

I have seen posts elsewhere from Bibble about (I think) a plugin for Photoshop 7.

As stated elsewhere, the RAW plug-in for v7.0.1 is no longer supported, and probably not available, unless you can find it on an "old software" site. That plug-in cost US$99 when released, and support was for cameras out at that time – some years back. The upgrade from v7 to CS2 only cost a few $ more.

I have not heard of any third-party RAW converter for v7, but there might be such an animal.

One option that I have tried and found to be good is Raw Shooter Essentials. It is a free download, and does the job quite nicely. The only hitch is that it is a stand-alone program. That being said, you can’t beat the price. You can download it at

I now have Photoshop CS2 and use it for raw conversion, because it is integrated into Photoshop and not an extra step. but when I had version 7 the RSE program did the trick
