Hi, I recently bought a dell 19" lcd monitor (e196f).

It looks great after using Photoshop’s adobe gamma software except for one problem. Dark colors (especially blues and oranges) become gradually darker towards the top of the monitor. This is regardless of viewing angle, but is less noticable when looking down on it.

It was this way with factory settings and adjusting brightness, contrast, etc. does not help this problem. Has anyone else noticed this issue with this or other lcd monitors?

I know this is a cheap monitor, but I didn’t expect this issue.

Thanks for you help.

Omigawd. This is the most common flaw of cheap LCDs. It is the main reason not to use cheap LCDs for photo work.

You should have looked for a large viewing angle (at least 170 degree vertical) and a very high contrast ratio (at least 1000:1), and you should have spent a few more bucks. It still would not have been perfect, but somewhat better.

Or get a cheap, but classy CRT from ebay. These days, a fairly new 19" Triniton can be had for considerably less than $100.

Thanks for your reply. I guess I should have researched this more. I may keep it for now (digital photography is just a side hobby for me) and get something better later.
