Hi There,

I am new to photshop 7 and I am trying to make FRENCH version of the icons for my Theology on tap site at www.ottawa-theologyontap.com

For example, I want to make French version of the word ‘Events’ and ‘Also". The part I am confused on in how I make these same graphics. I want the Frnech version of the text to look EXACTLY the same font/color/size as the English versions on the page (the text ‘Events’ and "Also")

So, based on the english versions of "events" and "also" fromthe above site:
1) What font type is used (arial, times roman, etc.) (KEY QUESTION)
2) what size?
3) How do I make the ‘grey border’ and white inside fill. Does that involve masking? Layers?
4) Basicly….if I am starting from scratch making the ‘english’ version, how woudl I make them….what are the steps?

HELP!

font is possibly impact
type in white letters
use a dark background layer if you need to see as you work (throw out later) open the character palette
use the letter spacing to make the font crowded, you may want to use other distortions, to get the proportion of the letter, maybe 110% click the T
delete the dark background layer
in the layers palette click the small f
choose stroke, select gray color, outside? 2-3 px?

Good instructions. The font isn’t Impact, though. Not sure what it is, but Impact’s "t" crossbar is symmetrical and the "hook" barely makes a 90 degree turn, nothing like the very extreme rise on the example. Elements don’t "close up" either, like the "s" and "e" do.

With umpty-bazillion fonts out there, finding an exact match can be a real challenge, especially with such an idiosyncratic font. If "as close as possible" will do, you’re going to want to visit the many free font sites (and the paid foundries, too, if that’s in your budget) and basically check as many fonts as you can. Your search is narrowed somewhat since you can eliminate ornamentals, display fonts, serif fonts, etc., but it’s still probably going to take a good bit of looking to find something with the characteristics of your examples. There’s no shortcut that I know of besides plain ol’ legwork, unless you can get in touch with the original developer and find out which font he or his creative agency used to produce the images.

Good luck… 😉

Cheers,
Scott

Unfortunately, both words are GIF images, so the Source doesn’t indicate the font. You might want to post the link in alt.binaries.font (as it IS a binaries NG, you might be able to post the Gif images), and ask for them to help in the identification process. Otherwise, as Scott points out, it might take quite a while to find the exact font.
