Can anyone explain…

I’ve downloaded RAW files from a Canon EOS Camera, through Canon’s "File Viewer" software to my computer…ending up with 16Bit TIFF files…I’ve then brought these into Photoshop CS and started editing saving my final files as PSD files…

However, having opened these PSD files I now don’t have access to a large proportion of the Photoshop filters to use with the pictures…

Can anyone explain why this is…or what I need to do to regain access to theose filters…All filters are displayed but only things like Blur or Sharpen are dark and actually avialble for use…

What am I missing…or which step do I need to do/skip to keep or regain access to those filters…anyone?

Much obliged KP

Are they 16 bits per channel? Many filters only work in RGB 8 bits per channel.

You said you ended up with 16 bit TIFF’s. That’s the answer. Photoshop has only limited filter support for 16 bits images.

King,
you can work in Photoshop CS using a Tiff file format as long as you do not use the compression when saving. Tiff will retain all Photoshop tool, layers, and functions.

Nonsense. Compression has nothing to do with the problem he encountered. And compressed TIFF’s also retain all that.

Most filters will not work on 16-bit files. To use your filters, use Image->Mode->8 bits per channel to convert the images to 8-bit.
