How can I select a color in a layer, and make it transparent, so that the previous layer shows through?

Thanks!

Simply adjust it’s transparancy using the slider that’s in the same area as your other layers (same area as layer blending)

Assuming a layer, not Background, select the color, make a Layer Mask from the selection. Or just Delete, but that’s not as nice.

Excuse a dumb question, but what’s the difference between selecting and deleting or making a layer mask from the selection. ((Sorry))

Thanks

If you select something and press Delete, it’s gone. Boom. No getting it back.

If you make a layer mask, the stuff that you have masked is still there. You can come back to this image a year from now and work on it again and it will all still be there; the part that is masked can be revealed again, or you can change the mask to your heart’s content.

A layer mask can be undeleted by painting & erasing.
