My boss needs me to make her hair look less yellow in a photo against a beige wall and she’s wearing black. The colour is pretty true to reality but she’s the boss … Please help me hang on to my job!

Colour match, hue/saturation, etc all affect the whole image and it’s just the hair I need to fix.

Any suggestions?

Method one: use the sponge tool in desat mode.
Method two: use selective color to remove yellow from yellow for a grayer look.
Method three: use selective color to add magenta, cyan, and black for a darker brown look.

Thanks Mike – went for the sponge option because I needed to be selective. Your quick help is much appreciated!

Glad to help. The other methods are selective in that they have a minimal effect on skin tones.

Glad that Mike gave you a fix. The cure for the Hue/Sat Adjustment Layer is to first Select the hair, and apply the H/S AL. This can be a touch of work, especially against a beige background, but is very effective, when used with a Selection. For hair, I like to use the Lasso with a decent Feather (dependant on the rez of image), then go into Quick Mask, and do any touchup to the Mask.

Regardless, you got what you needed, and, as you said, "She’s the boss… !"

Image->Adjust->Selective Color. Should take 2-3 seconds to do.
