I cannot open Photoshop 7.0. I have had PS on my computer for over a year and it has been working perfectly fine. Now, when I click to open it, it goes through the motion of opening up (i.e. the PS window pops up and it goes through gathering info and initializing), but then nothing happens. I tried removing and re-installing it, but the same thing happens. All the other software on my computer (including Adobe Illustrator) is working perfectly fine. I am running Windows XP Home Edition. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Emily,

Delete your prefs file – details in the FAQ at the top of this forum’s Topic List (The prefs file is not replaced with an uninstall/re-install)

What is the last thing it claims to be loading when it breaks? Fonts, Filters? Possibly a bad font or filter could be causing the problem.

Emily,

Watch the splash screen carefully. What’s the last thing shown as happening before it closes down on you?

I believe it says "Loading color preferences"

I am having the problem Emily has myself. I deleted the prefs, as others advised. Nothing at all is working, is it possible that I need to get a totally new version of photoshop? I’m getting pretty frustrated with this whole issue, and I really need an answer. What should I do?

Emily,

Try re-running Adobe Gamma from the C/Panel and creating a new monitor profile. Select sRGB as your starting point. Don’t forget to change the text in the ‘Description’ Box and ENSURE YOU SAVE TO A NEW FILENAME – otherwise you will over-write your sRGB profile

Len, I tried what you suggested and it still doesn’t work. I am going to try just installing it on a separate drive and see if that will fix the problem. In the mean time, if you have any other ideas, please let me know. Thanks for your help so far!
