I downloaded a trial version of PSCS 5 days ago. I usually use PSP8. I have been using PSCS for the last 5 days and I am liking it. Was editing photos earlier, saved the last one I worked on, all of the sudden I cannot open anything in PSCS. No error msg’s come up, all the file/browse options work, get to the photo I want to open, double click on it, and nothing happens. Shut down PSCS and reopened it, same thing. Rebooted computer, same thing. Gave up and opened PSP8 to finish my work. Images will not open in that either!!! Went in through explorer to the image folder. Normally when I double click an image it opens up my photo editor and opens the image as well. Now when I double click an image it pulls up the preview? This is not good. Have clients waiting on these photos and I have to order them tomorrow and I am not able to finish my work because I can’t open the images to work on them in any program. Cleaned temp files, ran adaware, dumped cache files, etc. etc. Anything I could think of. Please help!!

oh some extra FYI, when I go through explorer to the file I want to open and use "open with" PSCS opens but no image comes up, PSP8 opens, loads, and then closes. Still no error msgs during any of this.

"No error msg’s come up, all the file/browse options work, get to the photo I want to open, double click on it, and nothing happens"

absolutely nothing lol go to file open in PS nada, file browse double click nada, open explorer go to file open with, nada… file open.. nothing, edit with ps, zip… I have tried everything I can think of, click and drag nope, copy and paste huh uh lol I’m starting to get very worried.. and the biggest thing that concerns me is its not just ps but paint shop pro as well.. very odd… checked over my firewall, checked though ps and psp file association settings, checked my windows folder settings… it was working fine, I saved that one photo, went to open another immediatly and all of the sudden its doing this…

what type of file are they? tif? jpg? psd?

some ideas: try opening them in another application. try acdsee or ifranview (find on the web). try restarting your system in safe mode (f8 as soon as you reboot, select safe mode) to see if something else is preventing you from opening them. run chkdsk on all drives with the surface scan option checked.

It was all file types, it was in PSP8 and PSCS but opened fine in imageready … spent 6 hours, up till 5am uninstalling, reinstalling, defragging, trying everything I could think of to figure out why all of the sudden my two image editors quit working. *sigh* Finally around 5:30ish am I figured it out.

So for future reference to those here having problems…. if everything is fine, and all of the sudden you go to open photos and the image editing program opens but no files will, before spending 5 hours checking everything under the sun…..
make sure your invoice book isn’t laying on top of the ESC button!!!!!

* sigh*

Had the same thing happen with a student…she had stuck some papers in the space between the up and down arrow keys in the keyboard and it kept beeping! Couldn’t figure it out for about 10 minutes then I saw the paper sticking up between the keys! Imagine lecturing to a class of 18 with a rather loud continous beep beep beep going on!

Angey:

I just started having the same problem. Prior to this I was having the file saving issue touched on in this thread:

Rene Walling "HELP ADOBE PROGRAM ERRORS!" 5/18/04 4:59pm </cgi-bin/webx?13/0>

Unfortunately my keyboard and trackball are clear. This is a very bad deal. Would love to get some help on this from anyone. Since I can’t open files, I don’t know if I am also still having the file saving issue or not.

FYI stuff: Am running on a Windows 2000 server box. Not used as a server – had to go to that OS in order to get mirrored RAID to protect data. The only real changes in my system are regular, (when available), Windows Critical Updates and Norton virus definition updates.
