I haven’t touched Illustrator in years and I’m so clueless navigating. Any tips on basic orientation, coming from a photoshop mindset? No layers??? How the hell do I select things if it’s all the same stuff? I’ve got a bitmap & some text that’s converted to vectors & some real text and it all selects wierd like the bitmap has become a vector entity & the box of color fill selects in angular slices while I try to select other things…

….this is a pdf business card with a rectangle of color with white text entities on that and and a logo above with bitmap & vectorized text. I can’t even figure out how to group things, copy & move around. Ugh.

Illustrator for idiots?

Where is history? How do I know what I’ve undone?

Yes, layers.

You select things by clicking on them, or dragging a marquee.

Chainsaws for idiots? 🙂 It’s a very powerful program, it takes time to master, like any tool…

Illustrator has multilevel undo (unlike PS).

Has my bitmap really turned into vector? Is it linked? Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…

I would be happy if I could get the .ai into photoshop with editable text. I’m not sure I’m up to this right now.

It’s a huge learning curve, fastest route is using video traing try TOTAL TRAINING FOR ILLUSTRATOR, much quicker than books.

I don’t know how but the bitmap was indeed converted to vector, see this zoomed max screen grab of a chunk selected & dragged off to the side: http://www.edgehill.net/vectorized.jpg

There are a few programs that will trace a bit map image and convert it to vector. That looks like what was done to that image.
