Presets folder – installing PS CS2 over PS CS

Should I move (copy) my Photoshop CS folder to another partition before installing PS CS2, and then simply copy Custom Brushes, Swatches, Gradients, back into the newly installed CS2 folder?

That’s my essential question.

There are other things I’d like to save as well, but I’m not sure where I put them, or where they are stored
— for instance, saved settings pertaining to specific images for Levels, Curves and the like.

Though over the couple months I’ve been using CS, I came to store such things with their particular images, for the most part. Those I wished to use again, I tucked away who knows where. I’m still digging for them.

Thanks for any advice,

lenny

You don’t have to install to a different partition. Photoshop does not install over previous versions. You can move or copy your custom stuff over to the appropriate folders in the new install. You can either uninstall the previous version or hold onto it. I usually keep it for a while until it becomes obvious that I have no need for the previous version any more.

I’d make a catchall folder outside the Photoshop folder for those miscellaneous settings and things.

Thanks edjh,

Hey, great work!

Just to double-check, you mean to say I can run both PS CS the elder, and the CS2 Suite on a single partition, AND use my current presets? If so, GREAT!

OT:
I found and scoured your site a couple weeks ago, quite independently of this list. A short decade ago I was in a figure drawing class at Ventura College with a guy who did Batman comics, both pencils and inks, from his abode in Casitas Springs, CA. He worked out occasionaly at Don’s Gym across the street from my studio. Darned if I can remember his name right now. Do you have long skinny feet and go barefoot most all the time?

Yes. In that case best to copy the Presets over to the new version though (but not strictly necessary; just easier)

Nope, that wasn’t me. I’ve spent maybe two or three weeks in California all my life. Don’t know who that night have been. Thanks for the kudos.
