An elementary question

Pls ~ using PH CS2, Ver 9. I know that I need to spend (a lot of) time learning; however, I also need to get a photo modified ASAP.

Image’s background is high-gloss black. Most of the areas of the image are excellent; however, due to high gloss of object photographed, part of image shows reflection of wall that was lighted with flash (photo taken in perspective).

How do I sample the GOOD black area and paint this in areas that were damaged, i.e. show unwanted reflection(s)?

Clear question? Or muddy?

Best Regards,
Wayne

Hi Wayne,

It’s hard to say without seeing the image, but one of the most important tools for removing reflections is the clone tool. Set the clone tool to darken mode.

Generally the clone tool involves a fair amount of hand work, and it’s better to find a shortcut involving channel masks and adjustment layers.

Your question is fine, BTW.

Mike –

recently I met a photographer who suggested that I use a PS tool, a ‘brush’ that I would ‘dip’ into a part of the image where the black is good – use this brush to paint over the "damaged" area. Is this akin to the clone tool?

No problem sending you a jpg of the image. It is OK to do this, post the image on THIS news group?

Don’t post images to this group. Instead, upload the image to some public place and post the URL here.

Hi Wayne,

Images won’t make it to this group, which makes no sense, I know. We’re like the gorgons in Hercules, only without the eye. Chalk it up to history.

This is an interesting image, and I’ve gotten a good result using curves and blending modes, with no clone tool. I’ll respond to you offline.

BTW – there are other forums where images are shared freely. www.retouchpro.com and

recently I met a photographer who suggested that I use a PS tool…………..

why didn’t you ask him for the name of a good retoucher or better yet to re-take the photo properly so it doesn’t need so much fixing?

that you don’t even know what the clone tool is indicates you do not need to be asking questions but starting at the beginning, plenty of free tutorials out there, HELP is your friend
