One of my monitors has developed a magenta colour cast, but as they are getting on a bit I am looking for a couple of new ones.

I currently have Dell flatscreen Trinitron CRT monitors and I get on really well with them, however any recommendations on what to replace them with? Minimum specs are as follows:

– Flat screen
– 17"
– Black
– Ideally CRT, but will consider LCD (LCD’s I use at work are too bright, and probably more expensive)

Try to find Lacie Electron Blue monitors (CRT), super quality and very color stable. Lacie LCDs are good to but expensive. At work I have an HP 1940 19inch LCD. 1st LCD I don’t mind editing on, this is one very nice display.

I bought my stepson an Acer AL 1715 and I use one too, and both of us like them. They have decent 12 ms response time and the pic is not too bright, plus it’s adjustable anyway. Neither of us got any dead pixels. So far, so good. Stepson works for a newspaper and they bought the same monitor housewide for all their news people. You will enjoy the lack of heat in the summer with the LCD monitor. 🙂
Here is a similar Acer for $180.xx:

Same monitor, free shipping, $199:

Lacie monitors are usually rebadged NEC screens. Might be able to find an NEC one cheaper.

FYI it might be just a monitor cable heading south. I’ve gone through three BNC’s on my Mitsubishi 2040u in the past seven years.

Try another cable and see if you get the same problem.

Hi David 🙂

I’ve had Iiyama CRT-monitors for some years now. First the 19" flatscreen and now the 22" flatscreen (Vision Master Pro 511). They are absolutely some of the best quality and for a reasonable price.

Cheers,

David.
