I need to send my printer a file that contains spot colors. I have a document that was created in RGB. It is only 2 colors and I used the color picked to find out what Pantones the colors were. Everytime I send him the file he tells me he can not read it for his software. He is telling me that I need to seperate the colors as 2 different channels, so that when he prints it, he will get 2 documents – the first with color A and the second with color B. What I originally tried to do is to use the dropper tool to grab my first color, I then do a select color range. After the color range is selected I do a CRTL – Click on New Channel and pick the pantone. I repeat these steps for the 2nd color. There are a few problems: the image is no longer as crisp as before and when I send the file to the printer he says he still can’t read it. I would appreciate any help! George

What are you saving the file as. Depending upon the printer, you’re best bet is DSC 2.0.

PDF and PSD will also retain the data but most programs won’t recognize it.

I have been saving it as PDF. I will try the DCS version. Do you know why the image is not staying as crisp? Thanks.

Depends on your selection methods. Keep in mind that even though you say it was only two colors, RGB uses millions of colors and when two color blend together, you’re going to get some blending.
