here is a small example
it has a blue background layer and a rounded rectangle which has properties of a glass button- except you can’t see any of the buttonproperties.

Whey don’t they show up ?

when I looked at the file, the button isn’t there, but when I make a rectangle to make the button, it makes a black outline of the button which is not there when I save and reload the file.

When I go to the layer and delete the vector mask, the outline dissears, so apparetnly the rectagle tool is making a vector mask instead of a rectangle. How do I get it to make a rectangle ?

It’s creating a vector rectangle. It’s there, but you have to rasterize the layer before you can do anything. Right-click on the layer and find>Rasterize Layer. That should do it up for ya.
