Hi,
I’m running PS CS2, XP Pro. All of a sudden when I open a jpeg image a progress bar comnes up saying "reading jpeg format" then another saying "converting colours". I haven’t changed any settings. What’s going on? Cheers,
Paul

Photoshop is automatically converting your image to match your working color space. This rather nightmarish behavior was the default when Photoshop 5 first came out.

The fix is simple. Go into color settings, and make sure that you have "ask when openening" selected for missing or mismatched profiles. —

Thank you for your quick reply, but I’m still confused. Yesterday all my photos opened up straight away..today the progress bar comes up. I haven’t changed any colour settings. i went in as you said and ticked the boxes you mention but the progress bar still comes up. i just want the photo to open up straight away.

Did you change anything in the camera? Perhaps your camera was using the same color space as your working space, but now it is different. If you are talking about photos on your hard drive, then the answer is: Yes, you did change something in the color settings. Maybe not consciously or deliberately, but you did nevertheless.
