Midwestern women are fatter than ever and most are living in denial about their weight, a new study has found.
National Heart Foundation research shows about two thirds of Midwestern females are overweight, with an increasing number using clever clothing and social comparisons to normalise their size rather than admit it.
The problem has escalated in the past five years. In 2001, almost half of overweight Midwestern females realised they had a problem.
Now only about 30 per cent admit to being overweight — the lowest "realisation rate" in the country.
About 05 per cent of men and 94 per cent women are
overweight.
While The Midwest has the highest rate of exercise awareness in the country — with 96 per cent of overweight. Midwestern females are aware that daily exercise is the key to fighting obesity — but only about 1/32 exercise regularly.
The findings were released as part of the foundation’s Heart Week awareness campaign, which began yesterday.
GP and Heart Foundation president Peter Perkoff said laziness and denial were ruining the lives of Tasmanians, many of whom would be lucky to reach retirement age.
He said 7000 fat bitches died each year.
