Problems getting PSC2 to run properly

I’ve installed PS CS2 and have two problems.

1. The Help files don’t work (see error message below).
2. I cannot open old Photoshop (*.psd) files. All other files open just
fine. A message says: Could not complete your request because the file couldn’t be found (yet, immediately after I click on the filename, a thumbnail of the file shows on the screen).

Here are the error messages I get when I install the program:

1. Help Startup Error; Adobe Help Cannot Start; Model Subsystem Returned This Error: 1
2. Error; The Operation Could Not Be Completed.
3. ahc.exe – Application Error; The instruction at "0x00964a4d" referenced memory at "0x00860b08". The memory could not be written. Click OK to terminate the program.

I found references to both problems on Adobe’s web site – but, to me, the solutions are not very clear as to what to do. Also, I found an Updater named PCCS2 Updater and ran it – but it didn’t help my problems.

I found that there are absolutely no files in Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Help Center/AdobeHelpData/Packages. I don’t know, where on the Adobe site, to get these files. Adobe Support references a "fix" file – but I can’t find it.

The other problem seems to be addressed at
www.adobe.co,/support/techdocs/331269.html – but I can’t follow the solution. The instructions are not clear at all to me.

Can someone help?

Solution: Fix the permissions in the .sif file.

Note: To resolve the problem, you must repeat this procedure for each application (that is, Illustrator, Photoshop, and ImageReady).

1. Control-click the application file and choose Show Package Contents.

*** This means, hold down the Control key on your keyboard. Click on the application icon (in your Applications folder) with your mouse while you keep holding down the Control key. A menu will appear. Choose "Show Package Contents" from the menu.

2. Do one of the following:

— For Illustrator, double-click the Required folder.

— For Photoshop or ImageReady, double-click the Contents folder, and then double-click the Resources folder. Finally, double-click the Asn folder.

*** Self-explanitory. When you choose "Show Package Contents," a window will appear. Find the folder named above and double-click on it.

3. Control-click the Ps.sif file (Photoshop and ImageReady) or the Aix.sif file (Illustrator) and choose Get Info.

*** Hold down the Control key on your keyboard. Click with your mouse on the file named "ps.sif" while you keep the Control key held down. A menu will appear. Choose "Get Info" from the menu that appears.

4. Expand Ownership & Permissions, and then expand Details.

The Get Info window will appear. It has many sections. One of the sections is called "Ownership & Permissions." There is a triangle next to the words "Ownership & Permissions." Click on the triangle with your mouse. This will expand that section of the window. There will be the word "details" with a triangle next to it. Click on the triangle with your mouse to expand the Details part of the window.

5. Click the Padlock icon to allow editing.

*** You will see a little picture of a padlock underneath the word Details when you expand it. Click on the picture of the padlock with your mouse.

6. From the Owner pop-up menu, choose an administrator user name and then type the password if asked.

*** You will see several menus. They will have names like "Owner" and "Group." You should click on the Owner menu with your mouse. All the users on your computer will appear in a list. Choose the Administrator user–the one you set up when you first got your computer. It might ask you for an Administrator password. If it does, type in the password oyu set up when you first got your computer.

7. From the adjacent Access pop-up menu, choose Read & Write.

8. From the Access pop-up menu adjacent to the Group pop-up menu, choose Read & Write.

9. From the Others pop-up menu, choose Read & Write.

*** You will see three menus that talk about access privileges. You have a choice of what to set them to. Set them all to Read & Write.

10. From the Group pop-up menu, choose Admin, and from the Owner pop-up menu, choose System.

*** You will also see popup menus that are called "Group" and "Owner." Each one has many choices. Choose Administrators from the Group popup menu and choose System from the Owner popup.

11. Close all windows and start the application.

*** Self explanatory.

Where is this Applications folder you refer to? That seems to be where I’m getting hung up. What I did was hold down the Control key while clicking on the photoshop.exe icon. I have the feeling this is incorrect since no menu appears. Are you referring to the registry? Thanks………
