Hi,

I’m using Photoshop 6.0 and have a very basic question/problem. Somehow I’ve got myself in a situtation where I cannot copy or cut a layer.

I have a canvass open with several layers/images on it. I have the move tool selected and open up the Edit menu but the cut and copy options are greyed out so I’m unable to cut or copy the layer. Can anyone tell me why?

Thanks & Happy Holidays!

Matt

You may be on a layer which is turned off, or you may have made a selection that encloses no pixels.

Did you Select All? No selection, no copy or cut.

I did not do a Select All because I only want to copy a specific layer/image. I’ve got "Show Bounding Box" selected and can visual see the image I want is selected.

Any other ideas?

I’ve got "Show Bounding Box" turned on and it indicats the image I’m interested in is actually selected. I am unclear what you mean when you say "You may be on a layer which is turned off". How do you turn a layer on oroff?

Thanks,

Select All. Copy. It will copy only the current layer.

Yes. Learn how Photoshop works. "Select all" selects everything IN THE ACTIVE LAYER ONLY. That is exactly what you need. You have to select something before you can cut or copy. No selection, no copy or cut, because Photoshop wouldn’t know what you want to copy or cut.
