Is there any way to convert 2D images to 3D objects? I have heard that theoretically, it can be done by taking a lot of pictures from an object. Does anyone know a way to do it?

I am not sure this works but the other day I had an idea how to do this using the panorama stitch

take 3-5 pictures going around the object with slight overlap put into the panorama, align as well as possible
now use perspective
looks kinda like those VRML images
I tried it on a room interior
have not tried on objects
