Often I have my digital photo collection
printed out commercially on to postcard-sized
prints.

Sadly, the lab always crops the print to fit.

This is no good if I have typed descriptions
on the bottom of the print.

To stop this happening I want to put a wide
white border around the print –
automatically.

Can someone help me with this.

I have PS5.5.

Regards,Frank

Hi.

Make it bigger by adding white.

Image > Canvas Size.

Then Image > Image Size back to what it was.

order a custom print and tell them you want a full original on whatever size paper and DO NOT CROP
make sure the file contains all the white area and type you want (Roy told how)

Can you help me with an automatic (macro) way
to add a border of a fixed size?
Thanks

Do it -=once=- using percentages and record as an action!

make sure white is the color in your tool bar set for background Image >canvas size, double the size of the border you want and add to the height and width, type it in, select the center square for alignment. If you record this as an action you can play it again on any other image

In later versions you can just add strokes
maybe it’s there in 5.5 under edit >stroke??
can’t remember such old versions way to do it

Yes thank you. I did it from the "Canvas
Size" and selected the "percentage" part of the drop-down box and now it works perfectly.
I never noticed the "percent" thing before.

Many thanks for all replies.
