How can I emboss something to create the effect
of deepness rather height?
‘kay, lets try again.
It should have the effect of (reversed embossing?)
in relation to the surrounding areas.
I want to draw a picture of a wax seal with a logo on it, and it should seem as if the logo is scribbled in the wax.

Select the seal, not the logo.

and then? I thought ‘Inner Shadow’ & ‘Inner Glow’
on the logo should do the trick, but I still do not get the wanted effect.
I tried just now what you said by working on a selected seal and it is still tricky.

Actually, "deepness rather THAN height". <g>

Kind of reversed embossing –

Dave

‘kay, maybe I found the answer here –

‘ Options include an embossing angle (from –360° to recess the surface, to +360° to raise the surface), height, and a percentage (1% to 500%) for the amount of color within the selection.’

Spending a few secs on it does not prove to be convincing enough but I will work on this piece from the help files.

For that illusion, you’d need the shading to be the same as the seal’s outer (depressed) ring. Here you have highlights coming from the upper left. On sunken letters, the highlight would be lower right and the shadow upper left.

Our visual perception is based on the sun, thus highlights on ‘top’ indicat raised, on ‘bottom’ sunken.

Thanx a lot; this means new experimentation;
but now I now which direction to go –
re what you said about visual perception.

Dave,
Like this? I achieved the attached by 1st filling the text (sorry different font) with a slightly darker wax color.

Layer Style of TEXT: Bevel & Emboss
Technique:smooth
Depth:71
Direction:DOWN (important)
Size:4 PX
Soften:2px
angle:120(needs to match the angle of the light direction on surrounding wax to be convincing)
Alt:48

Hope this helps.

Cindy

Cindy, have somebody told you today how cute you are!
If yes, then you hear it for the 2nd time now:-)

Thanx for this, and even the font is nearly the same:-O

The help file says:

and I still wonder where this 360° facility is. I can only find 180’s. But never mind it, what you posted here is what I want – thanx a million Cindy.

Dave,
Your welcome, glad you saw my post and that I could help. Strangely, my post never showed up on my own computer, so I didn’t know if it got posted. I need to check if Norton is blocking posts with jpgs attached!

Cindy
