I need help…..

I have an image (Tiff) where in the center, I’ve added a rectangle that has a background ‘White’ with a ‘Fade Fill’ opacity of 75%. How can I make the border of the rectangle blend softly into the rest of the picture?

Thanks

Dan

You need to apply a layer mask to the added rectangle. Use a [radial] gradient on that.

Does that get you started?

Colin,

The box I’ve created is in the middle of the image (Tiff). Ultimately I want to write text on this box. I would ultimately like to feather the boarder of the box. The problem is the feather works well if the feathering occurs on the outside edge of the image. The box is directly in the center of the image.

In other words…can you outline the steps necessary to carry this out..

Thanks

Dan

Try this:

Select the layer containing the box.
CTRL-click on the layer in the Layers palette.
Click the Add layer mask button at the bottom of the palette. Click on the mask thumbnail.
Apply a Gaussian blur – fiddle with the settings to get the right effect.

BTW, one further step:
Read up on layer masks. They are worth the effort!

where? Is it in the manual?

Apologies if this sounds vague – I am into -ooo- 22 days of 30 day trial

Lovely bit of software 🙂

Yes, and online help. Google it. Consider some 3rd party books – you’ll probably want to get one or two.

Colin,

After creating the layer mask how do I get the ‘Mask’ to apply to the original image?
