Hi,
I recently upgraded to Photoshop CS. Since then I have not been able to use the arrow keys to "nudge" any layer/selection when the Move Tool is selected. (no problems with Photoshop7/6/5.5)
I’m sure i have the proper layer selected and move tool selected. I assume at that point the arrow keys should work. I have tried using various combo’s of Ctrl, Shift, Alt and none seem to work.

I assume I must be missing some sort of menu or setup of the move tool?? Just odd as I have never had this issue on previous versions. And this function is critical when aligning two layers to the pixel accuracy.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Best Regards,
Eric

Eric,

Whenever ‘strange’ things happen in Photoshop, the first thing to try is always to delete the preference file – Details in the FAQ at the top of this Forum’s Topic List

Thanks for the advice on the Preference File reset.
However, I tried it but still no success.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

you tried, but did you succeed? did you get the dialog asking you to reset your photoshop settings?

Hi Dave,
no, it did not work. However, I don’t recall a dialog box popping up asking me to reset my photoshop settings.
What I tried the Alt+Shift+Ctrl when booting into PS but that did not seem to work. So I tried the second suggested method and that was go in and actually delete the preference file. Did that and it created a new one, but still success. Not sure if deleting the file will prompt the dialog you mentioned.

As an aside, I tried another keyboard just to rule out any HW+Driver interaction with PS. That did not change anything so has me back to something funky in PS CS configuration.

Any other suggestions are more than welcome!
Thanks in advance.

Eric

somethine weird, definately… i just tried it and was able to nudge a selection (or full layer) with or with out the move tool selected.

which arrow keys are you using? i can do it with both, but not with the arrows on the numeric keypad if the num lock is selected.

are you on a laptop, where you might need to hit a Fn key to get at the arrows?

are you nudging the selection or nothing at all happens when you use the arrows?

is the layer locked in any way?

Yes, it certainly has me stumped. I actually have tried the numeric keypad as well… (on both keyboards that i tried. Num lock not selected).
Its on a desktop PC.
I have tried every variation of of nudging that I can think of… At the layer level (definately not locked) to a selection level (all which worked fine on PS7 for me…I’ve used PS for years now).

I asked the same question on Photo.net. One fellow suggested i may have a corrupted bit during the install… and last attempt is the dreaded re-install…. sigh!!

Thanks for your kind suggestions.

Regards,
eric
