You haven’t really listed the system specs or what you’ve tried. But the general cure-all for PS errors is to trash prefs. See the FAQs for details.
Bob
Anthony,
I don’t know if this is in whatever help document it is you’re referring to, but the first suggestion for attacking many problems is to reset your PS preferences. This is done by holding down Alt+Ctrl+Shift immediately after launching PS CS. When prompted to reset the preferences, do so. Hopefully this will again be a miracle solution to resolve the problem, but you may indeed have some sort of more significant hardware issue to contend with. Are the client PCs you’ve installed PS CS on all the same configuration or would the one in question having the problem be unique? Any other system details you can provide here will be helpful if anyone is to offer more suggestions on what to do.
Regards,
Daryl
What else are you looking for in System Specs?
As far as what I have done
Defragmented, removed all fonts and reinstalled windows fonts only, "trash prefs", uninstalled the entire CS package and reinstalled, renamed all adobefnt.lst files to adobefnt.old.
referring to the system specs, I this particular client is sitting next to someone who has the same PC and is not experiencing any problems.
Do we have to pull teeth to get any info out of you? If you want help, we’ll be glad to do what we can, but without the system specs all we can do is to suggest trashing the prefs. Have you tried that yet?
Bob
As I asked before, what type of system specs are you talking about. I am not trying to be difficult here. And as I stated before, I have tried "trashing the prefs."
All hardware, RAM, mobo, harddrives, video card, network card, sound card. Brand names please.
It may sound silly, but someone may see something that sets of a bell.
Are you sure you trashed the prefs? People have reported that they weren’t able to get the screen that asks to delete the settings file.
Bob
I will have to see the client next time he is in the office to get an idea of what hardware is actually in the PC. But I can tell you that it is a Compaq Evo D510 desktop. There isn’t anything special inside the box except maybe extra memory from our vendor. I tried the CTRL+ALT+SHIFT method and a window came up asking to choose a file location. Somewhere someone posted that there is actually a file that held these too and I deleted that. I can try that again when he gets back in tomorrow.
Anthony, try:
Start menu -> All Programs -> Accesories -> System Tools -> System Information.
Copy that!
Anthony,
If you do copy and paste the reported System Info per John’s suggestion, please ensure you’ve deleted the serial number reported for PSCS.
Regards,
Daryl
yeah it was already re-installed before I deleted it and it still didnt work
I think i didnt actually try I will do it
nvm Im wrong I did try sry
Well then, I’d suggest you reformat your hard drive, reinstall Windows, and all your applications from scratch.
how do I do that cuz my pc didnt came with a cd so im stuck on that 1
Then go and buy a copy of Windows and the applications, so that you have the CDs for future use.
Or do you mean that there is no CD drive in the PC? In which case, how did the software get installed originally? If it was done by the place you bought the PC from, there should at least be a recovery partition on the system, and the ability to make recovery CDs.
No I said I have no windows XP CD it came installed and I cant afford the cd currently
oops didnt read ur post good so I dont know what to do?
If it came installed, then it must either have a recovery partition on the hard drive, or a mechanism to create recovery CDs, and the documents you got with the PC will have instructions on how to do this.
Check through all the start menus for utilities that look like what you need.
If there is no recovery partition, etc, go back to the place you bought it from, as you should have got a CD with the system in that case.
yeah I have a booklet but I cant find it and my dad doesnt want to hear from me about the computer because he tooked it to get fixed so many times to his job I guess I will look for other solutions :-/
Brian,
You are running XP so you could always try a system restore.
Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System restore
Then restore it to the day before the problem occured. If you have installed anything since then it will need to be reinstalled.
BrianTo: So where’d you get that computer from again?
I also tried a system restore but it keeps saying after I didnt it could restore to the time chosen and I tried lots of times
That error looks like it’s happening very early in the startup process. I’m not sure what the exact problem could be (not enough information), but it’s almost certainly an operating system install issue at that point – something has changed permissions or a .dll version improperly or some other intrusive behavior. It could have been spyware or a virus, but most likely the damage is already done and not reparable.
You can try, as a last resort, having Windows XP repair itself IF you have a bootable Windows XP install disk. Otherwise, it really seems like it might be time to re-install the OS and all the applications.

The machine will have either come with a restore disk, or with a bootable Windows XP install disk. Either way, back everything up first. I also find it helpful to write down the applications I have installed using Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs.
Recognize that these are drastic measures; you’ll want to read up on this stuff. Do a Google search for "Windows XP boot repair". I saw a couple of sites in there with good explanations. It’s too detailed a process to go through here, unfortunately.
