Here’s a picture of me backflopping into my pool. I photoshopped it to hide my secret identity. But you get the picture.

I resent people who own pools. I was annoyed when you said you had a picture of you jumping into your pool. All I could think was, "Your pool? Who the hell are you to own your own pool?"

Actually, I love swimming pools. But even if I hit the lottery tomorrow I wouldn’t buy one. I’d simply find a hotel with a nice pool and pay the owners to reserve it for my private use. I’d tell him, "Look Bob, we’ll be coming over at noon tomorrow, so I’d appreciate it if you have the guests cleared out by 11, if you don’t mind." That’s the way we civilized people do it. We don’t go around cruelly flaunting our ownership in other people’s faces. That’s my new motto: "Don’t be cruel, rent your pool."

Hotel pools suck. If I won the lotto I’d just by my high school. I’d drive my bike through the hallways and swim in the olympic sized pool that has not one but two diving boards, with a wheel on the side to adjust the bounciness.

Public pools in Japan suck too. So much so that a 7 year old girl got sucked into the water outlet last week and drowned. Pools are a good way of dispensing with that crab-grass lawn forever.

Only a person with a moldy ass would even accuse another person of having one, I never thought to accuse a person of having a moldy ass since I don’t have one.

Check this picture of me walking on water, in Wisconsin, not California.

Agreed. But there are exceptions. The Roosevelt Hotel pool in Hollywood was one of my favorite summer spots. 25 yards long, crystal clear water, divingboard, not much of a crowd. But of course maybe it’s not the same now. I used to walk through the lobby wearing tee shirt and shorts with a towel around my neck. Beneath the shorts were the speedos I used for swimming and lying in the sun.

Now, here’s something I did one time at that hotel of which I am proud. Of course I was not a paid guest. Occasionally a gung ho security guard would come out and give everybody the once-over. I was in my late 20s at the time. One day a group of young kids, early teens, came over the wall and started jumping into the pool, two or three at a time on the diving board, using loud curse words, splashing people, etc. I knew it wouldn’t be long before the guard would arrive to order them out. But I was mainly worried that the guard might then become gung-ho and starting checking everybody out, including me. …. So I got on one of the many pool-side phones and called the desk myself. "There’s a bunch of young kids that don’t belong here", I said, "and they’re making a racket. I want them out of here NOW." So now I knew the guard would be coming out, so I jumped in the pool and began swimming laps, watching through my strokes as he appeared and continuing until he had booted the punks out and gone back to the lobby where he belonged. I thought that was funny, the way I told them to get the punks out of my way even though I myself did not belong there. If they hadn’t of made such a racket I wouldn’t have said a thing.
