I am having some trouble with tiled, seamless panel that I have made. The original PSD seems to be fine. I can use the offset filter to confrim that it is seamlessly tiled. When I save for web and save as as JPEG the edges go soft and the tiling is ruined.

I thought perhaps that my canvas should be a multiple of 4 so I made sure to use a multiple to minimize problems with compression artifacts.

I am using a low quality of "10"

I can fix the seam on the jpeg but then I have to save it again and it recompresses.

Has any one worked through this?

Thanks,

Mike McCue

Is the panel composed of mainly solid colors? If so, try saving as GIF. also, if it’s small (like small pic you are using to tile as the BG) it won’t hurt to save it on Maximum Quality.

No the image has lots of continuos tones. I do lots of tiling stuff and have never had this problem before. This image is not suitable for .gif format. I have done lots of jpeg tiles without this problem and I am not sure why this problem is showing up in this instance.

thanks,

Any way you can post an example, or let me see your working file? (psd)

Hi Aaron,

here is a link to the image I am having trouble with. The panorama landscape background is a 1900×450 JPEG I slide in flash. about a minute in the "seam" is in the frame. The original is seamless… I saved for web from both the PSD and a flattened targa. I can use the offset filter to confirm they are seamless. The resulting jpeg has this slight seam. I am only concerned with the horizontal seam in this example.

here is a link to a site where I use many tiled jpegs as page backgrounds:

handmade rhythm ashiko drums <www.handmaderhythm.com/hmr/drums.htm>

check out the different wood species on the drum pages… all the backgrounds are tiled and no seams. These tiles are seamless in both the vertical and horizontal axis.

any thoughts appreciated.

(thanks for the links)

I don’t see a blemish in the seam (in the wood) did you fix it?
