Nice photo but it doesn’t look like a painting to me. Maybe the web image is too small to see it. Shame without that it is wasted web space.

Aesthetics aside this is one of the more astounding "photorealistic" original images I have seen made with Photoshop.
The amount of detail in the image that is revealed with successive enlargements is as much a philosophical statement of a world view as it is an aesthetic decision.
What could a guy like Van Eyck have done with Photoshop instead of oil paint?

Get a grip on yourself man.

Turfed it straight into the nearest bin. (Photoshop that is.)

The Flemish were the first to use radiosity in their paintings – the effects of objects illuminating one another.

It’s fun to think about what people from the past would have done with today’s technology. I think most of them were innovative interesting people who would have loved digital. For example, I think Ansel Adams would have embraced the ability to digitally capture images, and then manipulate them real time.

Edward Weston is a more interesting one to thing about. He used an 8×10 view camera so that he could pre-visualize the final image exactly, at its final size. But he was a grumpy enough individual that he would probably grouse about digital and Photoshop, just as he groused about working in the darkroom, paper stocks, etc.

Are you joking…

The main question is …why?

It is an impressive demonstration of the skills of a photoshop user – but nothing else.
It’s good if you’re into photoshop ..but it certainly is not art

Why not just take a photo and manipulate it in photoshop. Would of saved him lots of time.

No, Bert is a unique artist and Berts quote says it all.

‘To me, it is not the destination that is important – it is the journey.’

I think from our point of view to see such incredible works serves to light the way in the use of this incredible application, as I say to friend who are impressed with some of my works, it’s an operating system for art more than a program. Berts work proves beyond doubt that you can take images and alter them in any way you like and where reality didn’t exist you can create it so realistically that no photo on the planet can ever be trusted again!
